Led headlights | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum
I have some on one of my trucks. They are bright as ####. Low beam has people constantly flicking their highs at me. High beam is #### near daylight.
I put LED projectors in my other truck: they are great.
Dot vs non dot apparently has to do with "light scatter" so the non dot is much more focused and laser sharp.
The dot approved ones are way more money when I priced them.
If people are flashing lights on low beam, then your lights probably need to be aimed properly. I've had two different sets of LED headlights (DOT approved) and they have a very definitive beam pattern that limits the height of the beam. You may just have to aim them a little lower.
My non dot approved are the ones people flash. It's not the aiming.
Worked on testing the LED Trucklite headlights . That was the only negative feedback. But if running in those conditions , you having to pull over to clear the wipers, clear the headlights .
LED headlights started showing up in the marketplace about 3 or 4 years ago. Be careful with what you're buying, as the actual LED's that go into the headlights today are much better then what being used back then. Look for a reputable brand, and more importantly the brand of the LEDs inside of the headlights. Best brands of current high performance LEDs are: Cree, Phillips, and Osram/Sylvania. Manufacturers are proud to put the brand name of the LEDs on the packaging, like "Made with Cree". Not all LEDs (diodes) are equal! Yes I'm referring to Chinese no names. I've seen some lately that are so blue, they almost look like cop cars. I'm not talking about DOT vs NON DOT, that's a separate issue. If you remember back a few years, some truckers wanted HID headlights, the kind that used a ballast or transformer for power supply. They were selling for over $2k, and they were a lot of trouble for that kind of price.
Led light question | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum
I'm sure this has been asked and I'm sorry but I'm on my and can't look. On my tractor my tail lights are led and about half are not working. I know with leds there is an amount or percent that can be out but iI'm not sure what it is. Can someone help me with this. I am referrin to 1 light with multiple led bulbs just tone clarify.
Thanks for the help
You're not allowed to have a percentage burnt out, rather as you're supposed to have at-least two.
"Any semitrailer or full trailer manufactured on or after March 1, , shall be equipped with [sic] at-least two rear side-marker lamps at a height of not less than 381 mm (15 inches), and on the rear of trailers not more than 1,524 mm (60 inches) above the road surface, as measured from the center of the lamp on the vehicle at curb weight. "
If Johny law gives you any problems, just refer him to § 393.11Lamps and reflective devices., sub-part B, footnote 4. of his little black handbook and send him along his way. Make sure not to issue him a ticket for wasting your time.:smt075
I spent over 30 minutes looking this one up. I'm unable to post code number for this.
You would only need one LED (in each lamp) if it was visible from 300 in sunlight. Did you bring your yard stick?
Used to be......any light that was mounted to the truck had to be working. You might only need 2 taillites, but if there are 4 mounted there, all 4 had to work.
Replace them. Why take a chance? LED lamp technology has improved quite a bit the last several years. Replace them, take the deduction, and don't worry about it. Yes, I know they're expensive but if cost is an issue then put in filament lamps ... didn't think so.
Eventually you'll run a cross a Barney Fife who will say "50%" of the lamps or not burning in the rear of your tractor and it will be very subjective until regulations are written to cover LED lamps with multiple LED's. I did a cursory search and couldn't find anything dealing with LED lamps on CMV's.
