As soon as the battery modules are assembled, the SmartRunner Explorer 3-D stereo-vision sensor performs a fully automated quality control. The high-resolution 3-D point cloud image created by the sensor displays all the required details of the battery module. This makes it possible to detect whether all battery cells are present, whether they are correctly aligned and whether they are arranged without any protrusions.

Industrial robots pick up the fully assembled and inspected battery modules and place them in battery packs. For this process step, the 2-D universal vision sensor VOS calculates the position and orientation of the modules with an integrated vision tool. The data is then passed on to the robot controller. This enables the robot arm to precisely grip the battery modules and place them into the battery pack.
